As a medical oncologist/hematologist, Dr. Chady Abboud Leon specializes in caring for people with cancer and blood diseases.

“I knew early on that I wanted to be a hematologist and oncologist,” he said. “The biology of cancer first fascinated me. I feel that helping people in this most difficult part of their lives is very fulfilling, whether you cure people or help alleviate their suffering. I also cared
for my grandparents who had cancer, so I saw as an insider how cancer affects people.”

Dr. Leon grew up in a community of about 1,000 in the desert in Syria. He left home at age 15 to attend high school and then traveled to three different continents to pursue his medical training.

He earned his medical degree in Syria, completed internal medicine residencies at hospitals in Dessau and Oldenburg, Germany, and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Program in Englewood, New Jersey. Dr. Leon came to Marshfield from Camden, N.J., where he completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Hospital. He was elected by his peers as Fellow of the Year two years in a row.

He enjoys playing and watching soccer, swimming and reading.
