Physician Assistant Lucas Michalik, is happy to be practicing medicine near his hometown of Marshfield. Working in small-town family practice is what he has wanted and found in Colby.

"It's great to be a part of the patient's life journey and get to know them," he said. "I see patients from childhood to adulthood for management of chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes but also am able to address acute concerns that they have. Here in Colby, I am able to utilize a broad spectrum of my skills in terms of acute visits and procedures."

Lucas said his family physician was an inspiration to him to follow this path in his career. He knew that he wanted to work near his hometown community of Marshfield and be involved in medicine. Michalik graduated from UW-Madison.

Lucas is practicing in the system that he grew up going to as a kid. While he will be comfortable in his Central Wisconsin surroundings, he says he hopes his patients are as comfortable discussing their health care with him.

"I want them to say they felt comfortable discussing medical issues with me and felt they were cared for and not treated as a number, but someone who was listened to and heard," he said.

He also provides occasional nursing home coverage in Abbotsford.

In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, particularly fly-fishing, playing and watching sports, coaching youth soccer in Marshfield, and spending time with his family.
