Violet Ellington, FNP

While she originally worked in emergency medicine as a registered nurse, Violet Ellington advanced her career as a nurse practitioner.

“In the emergency room, you have a lot of one-time contacts with people and you don't see that continuity of care," she said. “I wanted to see people's successes, health wins and see patients throughout the spectrum of life."

Coming from Primary Care, Ellington continues to care for patients in Occupational Health.

“So much of our identity is tied to what we do for a living," she said. “I believe getting a patient back to work in the safest way possible is important for their physical and mental health."

In Occupational Health, Ellington can provide Commercial Driver Medical Exams/Department of Transportation physicals, pre-employment needs, preventive screening exams like hearing, vision, communicable disease, along with workplace injury and workman's compensation.

Ellington was initially drawn to medicine through her great aunt who is a nurse.

“I had a family connection to nursing and I was intrigued," she said.

Ellington's best friend was diagnosed as a diabetic, which further sparked her interest in helping others and pulled her closer to the field.

“I wanted to learn how to help those struggling with medical conditions and how to become an ally in their medical journey," she said.

Outside of work, Ellington enjoys running, hiking, biking and fishing on lake or ice. She loves the Chippewa Valley for all the outdoor recreation.
