Dr. Okorie’s interest in ophthalmology took hold when she discovered the field gave her the opportunity to treat patients using the latest technology, and to build long-standing relationships. For her, providing a high level of comfort to patients is a top priority as a glaucoma specialist.

“With glaucoma, you have the opportunity to help people through surgery and other procedures, but you also build connections with patients, who require continued care for this chronic condition,” she said. “You get to know patients, which is an important aspect of my practice.”

Ophthalmology continues to evolve with improved tools that provide new insight into the health of the eye, opening up access to new treatments. With her desire to provide compassionate bedside manner, and always listening to patients’ needs, she provides the comprehensive care people expect.

“I want to be the kind of doctor that other people would say, ‘I would send my family member to that person’,” she said.

Dr. Okorie earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. She then completed her residency in ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y., and earned her glaucoma fellowship at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

Her interests include reading, ballroom dancing, playing piano and traveling.
