Brennan Young, PhD

Brennan Young enjoys helping kids
overcome challenges. It was as a high
school swimming instructor that Young
discovered his passion. Whether it was
encouraging kids to conquer a fear of
water, or overcome obstacles in the
classroom, Young quickly discovered that
he has a knack for helping children reach
their full potential.

“If given the opportunity and proper tools,
children are eager to show us that they
can do well,” he said. “Children are part of
a broader system, including family, friends,
schools, and communities.”

Young earned his undergraduate degree
from UW-Madison and master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Denver. He completed training in pediatric medical psychology at Children’s Hospital of Colorado and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN before joining Marshfield Clinic in 2013.

“Children do well if they can,” he says, borrowing from an approach called ‘Collaborative Problem Solving.’ He said working with important adults in their lives is paramount. “I’m passionate about providing the means and the space for children to do well.”

In 2017, Dr. Young transitioned his practice to telehealth. He moved with his family to Utah in order for his wife to pursue her career. However, he felt strongly connected to the people of the Chippewa Valley and northwest Wisconsin and has continued to provide services on a full-time basis.

Young nurtured a love for outdoor activities while living in Colorado during graduate school. Hiking, backpacking and skiing are among his hobbies.
