A physician assistant in orthopedic surgery
Dustin Hess, a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery, is involved in all aspects of patient care from evaluations to assisting in surgery.
He became interested in the medical field when anatomy and physiology courses captured his attention during his time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He enjoys putting all the pieces of an individual patient’s health together to deliver the highest quality care possible.
"I like working to integrate everything in a patient's history and applying it to their current situation," Dustin said.
Dustin sees patients with sports injuries and assists in surgery. He also sees general orthopedics cases.
"For me, making sure that my patients are comfortable asking questions is really important," Dustin said. "Medical issues can be confusing, so I think it's important to take the time to make sure patients understand their condition and the treatment options."
What Dustin enjoys most is seeing his patients progress and improve their lives through the care he provides.
"Patients come in with lots of pain or limited mobility, and when they come back after treatment, they are so grateful that they're not in pain anymore," Dustin said. "After treatment, they can walk or garden or hunt again. They can get back to whatever it is they weren't able to do because they were limited by pain."
