Frances Mariel Canales, NP

Frances Mariel Canales, AGACNP, is a hospitalist nurse practitioner at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston. She cares for patients during their hospital stays, treating everything from cardiac issues to podiatry problems.

“Hospital medicine essentially acts as the patient's primary provider while in the hospital setting and thus it is our job to figure out what is going on, start treatment and consult appropriate specialties along the way," Frances said.

Frances grew up in a family of doctors and nurses. One of her biggest influencers was her father.

“He is a medical doctor in the Philippines and was my biggest supporter when I decided to pursue my nurse practitioner education," Frances said. “I share my parents' passion in helping cure and care for my fellow people."

Frances appreciates helping people during difficult and vulnerable times, and being able to help them make important medical decisions.

“I believe in the philosophy of first to do no harm, second to heal and provide care irrespective of age, color and ideology, and third to do the best I can in providing care and service to my patients," said Frances.

Frances graduated from Davao Doctors College in the Philippines with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She attended Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota for her masters. During her free time, Frances enjoys painting and sketching, along with exploring new hiking trails.
