Jay Wilkins, M.D., is a board certified ophthalmologist who treats cataracts, glaucoma, macular degenerations, diabetes and dry eyes, and also cares for those who need glasses or contact lenses. In addition to being passionate about performing cataract surgery and laser treatments, Dr. Wilkins enjoys working to ensure the eye clinics always have the most up-to-date technology, techniques and services available to its patients.

“I strive to provide the highest-quality eye care and explain eye conditions in terminology our patients can easily understand," Dr. Wilkins said. “It's rewarding to care for a patient's eyesight, but we're also often able to identify other issues just by carefully listening and paying attention to their concerns."

Initially, Dr. Wilkins was interested in an engineering career, but when schooling shifted toward biology and chemistry, he realized medicine offered a great way to use his talents to serve others. Dr. Wilkins enjoys ophthalmology because of its unique mix of surgery and office experiences and the ability to care for patients of all ages.

“I'm an active listener and answer questions honestly so my patients understand their situation," Dr. Wilkins said. “The human element is often more important than the medical aspect. You can't always cure someone, but you can always be compassionate, respectful and caring."

Dr. Wilkins earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin and his Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He served his internship at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota.

Most important in Dr. Wilkins' life is spending time with his wife and three boys. In his free time, he enjoys singing and listening to music, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, escape rooms and martial arts.
