John Cordova, MD

Dr. John Cordova (pronounced CORdoe-
vah) pays special tribute to the
strong support staff that includes nurses,
lab people and the people who get the
surgical suites prepared.

“I really believe that I don’t save anybody
but I do help people out,” he said. “They
are saved on some other level. Even the
very best surgeon cannot do it alone.”

Dr. Cordova decided early on in his medical
training that he found trauma surgery
exciting. He joined Marshfield Clinic Health System partly because of its location near relatives
in Wisconsin, but also because of the
camaraderie he witnessed during a visit. “I put most of my energy into contact with the patient and family,” he said. “I want them to know what is going on and to be at peace with it.”

He earned his medical degree and completed
his surgical residency at Creighton University
School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He
completed his surgical critical care fellowship
at Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinic in Kansas City, Missouri, and was in private practice for 13 years in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He and his wife have three children. He is learning to hunt and enjoys spending time with his family.
