As a pediatric pulmonologist, Dr. Joshua Freedman provides care for patients with conditions of the lung including chronic cough, recurrent pneumonia and cystic fibrosis.

He particularly enjoys being able to follow his patients through every aspect of their care, including if they end up in the hospital or at their regular appointments.

“I can build a relationship with them because there is a good mixture of inpatient consultation and outpatient care,” Dr. Freedman said. “I believe in preventive care and trying to keep kids healthy so they do not have to go to the emergency department.”

In order to help his patients before they have an emergency, Dr. Freedman believes patient education is important.

“Explaining why we are doing something is a big part of medicine and what I like to do,” Dr. Freedman said. “A lot of people come to see me once they have problems breathing. My goal is to help them through education and medicine so they don’t have those emergencies.”

Dr. Freedman attended medical school at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He completed his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Freedman is an avid sports fan, especially when it comes to the Duke Blue Devils. He also enjoys spending time outdoors.
