Julie Turchi decided to go into nursing
after witnessing the good care both her
parents received from nurses during their
cancer treatment. She worked as a nurse
at two nursing homes before joining the
Family Practice Department at Marshfield
Clinic Colby/Abbotsford Center. In 2012,
she decided to pursue a master’s degree
in nursing, with an emphasis on being a
family nurse practitioner.

“Being a nurse practitioner definitely
provides more autonomy and responsibility
for patient care,” she noted. Under a
physician’s supervision, she performs
health assessments, orders diagnostic tests,
interprets the results and treats the patient.

“We definitely form strong relationships here with our patients,” she said. “I like the fact that I already know a good majority of our patients and as a nurse practitioner I will be able to directly do more for them.”

She earned her nursing degree from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, and her master’s degree from Concordia University in Mequon.

She and her husband, Tom, have two teenaged children, Tom and Kaitlyn. She enjoys doing family activities, snowmobiling, running and reading.
