Laura Mekjian's path to health care isn't like many others, as she will candidly tell you.

“I Googled 'stable jobs' and found nursing," Mekjian said. “I then told my Mom that I'm going to nursing school. What started as a practical choice became a calling. I found out that caring for others is exactly where I'm meant to be."

After nursing school, Mekjian spent time as a registered nurse in several specialties, including care in a hospital ICU.

“While I appreciated the intensity and complexity of critical care, I wanted to connect with patients beyond emergencies," Mekjian said. “That's what inspired me to become a nurse practitioner in family medicine. I wanted to build lasting relationships with patients, focusing on prevention, wellness and care throughout their lives."

Mekjian is now a board-certified family nurse practitioner who builds trust by listening to patients and supporting them in making meaningful lifestyle changes.

“There's nothing more rewarding than when a patient returns and shares how much my care has made a difference in their life," Mekjian said. “Whether it's seeing progress or simply knowing I've been a trusted part of their support system, those moments remind me of why I love what I do."

Outside of practice, Mekjian enjoys hiking, walking the dogs and exploring nature. Mekjian also appreciates relaxing with music, a book or a thought-provoking podcast.
