Mohammed Ilyas, MD

Dr. Mohammed Ilyas chose a career in medicine because it offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives by alleviating suffering and enhancing overall well-being.

“I chose neurology because it's a fascinating field that delves into the complexity of the human brain and its manifestations," he said.

Dr. Mohammed Ilyas has an extensive and diverse educational background in pediatrics and neurology. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India, followed by a one-year internship at the same institution. He then completed a Pediatrics Residency at Niloufer Hospital for Women & Children in Hyderabad.

Continuing his training in the United States, Dr. Ilyas pursued a Pediatrics Residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine/Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He further specialized in Child Neurology through a residency at the same institution. His advanced training includes a Neurophysiology Fellowship at Wayne State University/Children's Hospital of Michigan, followed by an Epilepsy Fellowship at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is board-certified in child neurology, epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology.

Dr. Ilyas specializes in treating a wide range of neurological conditions, including seizures, epilepsy, developmental delays, headaches, tuberous sclerosis, stroke and movement disorders. He has particular expertise in electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials and intraoperative monitoring, intractable epilepsy evaluation and treatment, neurocutaneous disorders and advanced neurological care for newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

“The part I love most about child neurology is epilepsy, as curing someone with epilepsy not only provides a better quality of life for the family, but also gives us the greatest satisfaction in life," he said.

As a provider, Dr. Ilyas is committed to listening, understanding, and treating children with neurological conditions—always with the goal of putting a smile on their faces.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Ilyas enjoys playing soccer, ping-pong, barbecuing and spending time with his family.

He's married to his wife, who is a psychiatrist in training, and they have three children in different stages of education – elementary, middle and high school.
