Dr. Ram Pathak focused on endocrinology while completing residencies in internal medicine in his native India and the United States. “We were seeing more and more patients with diabetes,” he said. “At the time, there were few specialists in the field.”
Since completing his fellowship in endocrinology at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans, Dr. Pathak has applied his expertise to treating diabetes, thyroid disease, other hormonal disorders and osteoporosis.
Dr. Pathak joined Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2006. “I like the System’s community-based health care approach,” he said. “A healthy population is a productive population.” He also believes well informed patients are best able to undersand and respond to treatment. “I encourage patients to ask questions and am happy to satisfy their need for knowledge and reassurance.”
Dr. Pathak earned his medical degree from Nagpur University, India. He completed residencies in internal medicine at Government Medical College & Hospital, Nagpur, and State University of New York Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo. He is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.
He maintains a deep interest in research, having published papers in several medical journals and was the principal investigator for a large diabetes study conducted at 10 sites across the country. Dr. Pathak also serves as assistant clinical professor of medicine at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison.
Dr. Pathak and his wife, Sumedha, a hospitalist at Marshfield Medical Center, have two children. He enjoys reading and traveling.
