As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Thomas J. Bramwell performs hip and knee replacements, arthroscopic procedures. He also sees patients with hand disorders.

Dr. Bramwell owes his interest in medicine, in part, to experiences shadowing the team doctor for his high school football team. His specific interest in orthopedics began during his time playing college football for Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“Seeing some of my teammates go through injuries and return healthy after surgery made me want to go into orthopedics. I wanted to help people return to their pre-injury activity levels,” Dr. Bramwell said.

He earned his medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Iowa and completed his orthopedic residency at Ohio University and Doctors Hospital. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Bramwell sees a wide variety of patients, including those who need a hip or knee replacement, arthroscopic procedures or have hand disorders. One of the aspects of orthopedic surgery he enjoys most is the precision it requires.

“I am a perfectionist, and I strive to do the best work I can every single day,” Dr. Bramwell said. “To be able to improve patients’ quality of life and make them better than they were before they came to my office is what I really enjoy.”

Dr. Bramwell believes an open dialogue with patients is critical to ensuring the best possible outcome for their care.

“I am very honest with my patients,” he said. “I want them to understand their situation, diagnosis and what their options are.”

When he is not at work, Dr. Bramwell enjoys running, playing hockey and golfing. He is married with two children.
