What to expect at your visit

  • Consult with an experienced neurologist (dementia/cognitive specialty for Memory Clinic patients).
  • Medical history review (please have your provider share prior scans/tests). Neurological examination and cognitive testing (as needed).
  • Diagnostic testing (blood tests, MRI/PET, CSF testing, etc., if indicated).
  • Personalized care plan: Medications, nonpharmacologic approaches, cognitive therapy, and counseling—including clinical trial options when appropriate.

Stroke: recognize, respond, recover

  • Know the signs—BE FAST: Balance, Eyesight, Face droop, Arm/leg weakness, Speech or sensation changes, Time/terrible headache → Call 911 immediately.
  • Treatment windows: IV clot-busting medication (within ~4.5 hours) and catheter-based thrombectomy; in selected cases, advanced intraarterial approaches may extend the treatment window up to 24 hours.
  • Specialized services: Advanced brain imaging, clot removal/coiling, and an accredited stroke rehabilitation unit.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

Many patients are referred by their primary or geriatric provider; we also coordinate directly with referring clinicians to streamline your care.

Can I do my first visit by telehealth?

Yes—our neurology and related specialties offer at-home telehealth visits via phone or smart device for appropriate concerns.

Where can I complete sleep studies?

In-lab options are available in Beaver Dam, Eau Claire, Marshfield, Minocqua, Neillsville and Rice Lake, with at-home studies when appropriate.

How soon should I come in for stroke symptoms?

Immediately. Call 911. Clot-busting medications and catheter-based treatments are time-sensitive; arriving quickly can reduce long-term damage.

What advanced treatments are available?

DBS, endovascular coiling, Gamma Knife™, IMRT and comprehensive neurosurgery, plus CARF-accredited stroke rehabilitation.
