“As a nephrologist, my role is monitoring
progression and treating kidney disease,”
says Dr. Abrego. “In order to help prevent
chronic kidney disease from progressing, I
watch my patients for high blood pressure,
elevated cholesterol and medication
interactions.” Dr. Abrego has made dialysis
an area of interest in his practice.

Dr. Abrego often works closely with other
doctors. He explains: “Kidney disease is a
systemic problem that often involves other
parts of the body, so I communicate with my
patients’ other specialists and primary care
physicians frequently. It is important to catch
kidney disease at an early stage so that we
have every opportunity to avoid dialysis.”

Together with his wife and two daughters, Dr. Abrego enjoys watching movies and playing board games. He is involved in his church and his daughters’ school activities. When he has some spare time, he likes to work on household projects.

Dr. Abrego is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He earned his medical degree at The National University of Mexico – College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and was fellowship-trained in nephrology at Henry Ford Health System – Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
