Direct Access Testing

Walk-in Lab Testing

Direct access testing is available at select Marshfield Clinic locations. This service gives you the ability to order certain lab tests quickly and confidentially without a referral from a provider. Our team will perform the tests within our accredited lab locations.

This convenient and cost-effective lab testing option helps you monitor certain ongoing health risks, provide personal health data or test for potential health risks.

These tests shouldn’t be substitutes for regular health care visits with your primary care provider. If you receive an abnormal test result, please contact your provider.

Payment Options

Payment is required at the time of service and insurance won’t be billed. We accept cash, health savings account (HSA) cards and all major credit cards.

Tests offered

Our direct access testing locations offer a variety of tests to help you understand your health, including, but not limited to:

  • Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP): Consists of several individual tests, including blood sugar levels, to assess the function of organs such as the liver and kidneys.
  • Hemoglobin A1C: Provides a three-month average of blood sugar levels. This test can be used to diagnose diabetes and determine how well it’s being managed.
  • Lipid panel: Monitors cardiovascular health and includes total cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol) and triglycerides.
  • Progesterone: Measures the level of the progesterone hormone in your blood. It indicates ovulation, overall ovary function and is often part of pregnancy monitoring.
  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA): Measures the level of PSA in your blood. Rising levels of PSA could indicate infection or other health conditions of the prostate.
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH): Monitors thyroid function, which controls your metabolism. Irregular thyroid function can explain an array of symptoms that are often treated with thyroid medications.
  • Total testosterone: Measures the level of testosterone hormone in your blood. Abnormal levels can impact energy levels, mood, muscle and bone strength, libido and overall well-being.
