Megan Simmons is a physician assistant who says science was her favorite subject growing up.
“I loved learning about the world around us and how things work," Simmons said. “Once I started anatomy and physiology, I was even more fascinated by the human body. I knew I wanted a career that would combine continuous learning and being able to help others with that knowledge."
Earlier in her medical career, Simmons worked as an emergency room technician. She appreciated the adrenaline and not knowing what the day may bring. Since becoming a physician assistant, she says it's become deeper than that.
“I still love the variety, but I chose emergency medicine because I feel like I can make the biggest impact working in this specialty," Simmons said. “I enjoy getting to work with all types of patients, being able to be a source of calm and comfort in what can be a stressful time, and the teamwork that comes with working in this setting."
Simmons grew up in Rhinelander, so it's no surprise she enjoys the outdoors. Her husband is a fishing guide and the two of them like to compete in musky tournaments together. Some of her free time is also spent in the gym, as she calls weightlifting a “big stress reliever and my favorite way to prioritize my own health."
