Conditions we treat
- Primary bone tumors: Osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, and other bone tumors.
- Soft tissue sarcomas: Including liposarcoma and other connective tissue tumors.
- Metastatic tumors to bone: Breast, prostate, kidney, thyroid, lung, melanoma and more—especially when there’s an impending or actual pathologic fracture.
How diagnosis works
- Evaluation & exam. We listen to your symptoms and perform a focused musculoskeletal exam.
- Imaging. Plain X-rays are common first tests; CT, MRI, bone scans, and PET scans may be added for detail and staging.
- Biopsy. Percutaneous (needle) or surgical biopsies—often using ultrasound, fluoroscopy, or CT guidance—confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment options
- Surgery (often limbsalvage): Remove the tumor and reconstruct to preserve function—using prosthetic, alloprosthetic, or megaprosthetic techniques when appropriate.
- Bone grafting & revision: To restore stability and support healing.
- Radiofrequency ablation: Minimally invasive option for select cases.
- Coordinated radiation and chemotherapy: Used alone or combined with surgery based on tumor type and staging.
